VAT is a self-determined indirect tax. The value-added tax or VAT is levied on the actual addition of the price level of the goods or services by adjusting the material tax as opposed to the tax payable on the goods or services supplied.

VAT Business Identification Number (BIN) will be available within three days. You have to apply online. Officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) VAT Online Project will confirm the registration or enrollment by e-mail to the applicant within three days if all the documents are correct. This is known as EBIN.

(1) Every person to be registered shall apply to the concerned officer for VAT registration within the prescribed time, conditions and procedure.

(2) The concerned officer shall, within the prescribed time, conditions and procedure, register the person and issue a registration certificate containing the business identification number.

(3) If any application under sub-section (1) is not lawful, the officer concerned shall, in the prescribed manner, within the prescribed time and manner, inform the applicant thereof.

Every registered or enlisted person shall display the VAT Registration Certificate or the Turnover Tax Certificate or its attested copy in a specific place of economic activity in such a way that it is easily visible.
The registered or enlisted person shall, in the prescribed time and manner, notify the concerned officer in case of change of the following information relating to economic activities, Such: (A) change the name of the person or type of business, including the business name or any other trade name; (B) change the address of that person or any other contact information; (C) relocation of economic activities; (D) any change in the bank account information of the said person; (E) change the nature of one or more economic activities conducted by such person; (F) changes in ownership or partnership; (G) any other prescribed change.
In order to sell or provide services for a VATable product, a VAT invoice must be issued in support of each sale. VAT invoice means receipt for the purchase. The first schedule of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012 (VAT Act) contains a list of VAT-free goods and services.
In case of receipt of any supply from a registered person, the source tax deductor shall issue a certificate deducting the source tax in the manner prescribed by the Board at the time of payment against the said supply by the said tax deducting entity.
